I could not be more excited about this end table that my husband built for me. I have dreamed of it for so long, and it was well worth the wait! A few years ago, some coworkers of mine were cutting down a tree, and I couldn’t help but think of what could become of that tree.
I asked if they could cut me off a chunk so I could take it home. Kindly, they did just that. It thus went on to sit on my back porch for a very long time. Long enough for my husband and I to start dating, get engaged and then marry. That stump has certainly become a part of this family! I told my husband of my dreams of cutting off slivers and making end tables with cool metal legs. But I wasn’t sure how I was going to go about it. Without me noticing, he took the stump to a friend with a mill and made my dream a reality. (I have no idea how I didn’t notice the big stump missing off the back porch) Christmas day the beauty greeted me at the door and it makes our living room so much more cozy.
Nature really does something to liven up a space. Not in a distracting kind of way, but in a comforting way. It balances the man made with the beauty that God makes. There is something way more appealing about being surrounded by life: friends, family, nature. So bringing nature elements into the home can bring a layer of peace into our otherwise very busy lives. When I look at it now, it reminds me to take a deep breath and relax. It also reminds me that my husband and I make a pretty good team, and if we move towards our dreams, fun things can happen.
