I went back and forth and back and forth brainstorming ideas for how to display all our various Harvest Studio products at an upcoming fair. The difficulty was that I wanted the display to be clean and simple, big enough to display items while not looking cramped AND be easily portable. I had some ideas but nothing made my heart seem to jump. We were getting really close to the Market day and I was getting nervous, so my husband told me that if I can’t come up with something than I can borrow the peg board in our laundry room until I get an idea. LIGHT BULB! That was it!

Embrace Design Constraints
Creativity maximizes itself when you embrace design parameters as an exciting challenge. Don’t avoid challenges, embrace them. A blank page may let you do whatever you want, but it won’t always bend, twist or stretch your ability to create. Creativity is an ever changing phenomenon and your personal creativity can grow when you don’t let design constraints scare you. Instead, see that design constraints are going to result in a more thoughtful, educated, tested and explored product. The design process won’t hurt you, it’ll grow you! Read More

Making Your Own Visual Itinerary
I recently got married and my husband and I decided we wanted to make most of our decor/signs/guest gifts by hand! We made a welcome bag for all the hotel guest and included an Our Favorite Things To Do card, so out of town guests could go exploring during their visit!

Sketching As A Way Of Learning
What depth can be created through pencil and paper. As I experiment with mediums, I am loving pencil on watercolor paper because of the texture it allows. I can use the texture to my advantage when I have a subject who’s skin is full of texture!

Exploring Proportions and Scale Through Using Watercolors
I love elephants. These animals are incredibly massive but they have such a gentle grace about them. Maybe that’s because we typically see them moving slowly, or standing still. But their creation is such an odd but beautiful balance of swift grace found in a large creature.

Making Visual Reflections of Spaces and Places
Who knew a pineapple could transform the image of a city, not just visually but culturally. My husband and I recently took a trip to Charleston and learned all about how the pineapple is the symbol of hospitality and the origin of how that symbol came to be.
